On March 31st, Mrs. Delany’s Fifth Class enjoyed a Fabric and Fibre workshop under the wonderful guidance of Fiona. The girls thoroughly enjoyed creating their own picture in which there were ‘No Rules’. I’m sure you will agree that their work is both beautiful and very creative. Well done, girls!
The girls in Ms. O'Neill and Ms. Barry's classes took part in the Science Blast investigation this year.
Ms O'Neill's class
The girls in Ms O'Neill's fifth class decided to research the question 'What factors affect our balance?' The girls decided to investigate whether factors such as shoe size, height, ear size or flexibility affect our balance. They also measured their ability to balance under certain conditions such as with their eyes closed, holding their ears and while being questioned. Overall, the girls discovered that being distracted or closing your eyes can affect your balance.

Ms Barry's class
The girls in Ms Barry's sixth class decided to research the question 'Does the length of our limbs affects our performance in different sporting activities?' To begin, the girls all measured their legs and arms. We were then able to identify the girls with the longest and shortest limbs. The girls then tested different sporting activities such as running, kicking, throwing and jumping. The girls ensured that everyone carried out the test under the same conditions or our results would be invalid. Overall, we found that the length of our limbs has no impact on our ability in sports. We hypothesize that factors such as athletic ability, weight and overall height have more of an influence.

ESB Roadshow
The girls were delighted to have their projects showcased in the hall for the ESB roadshow. John and the team from Science Blast visited the girls with their camera crew to see the girls projects and ask them lots of questions about their investigations. This was a super day, with lots of fun had by all!
