The Junior Infants had a wonderful day on Wednesday the 29th of January when their Grandparents visited us here in St.Brigid's. There was great excitement as our visitors arrived. The girls from Ms. Flynn's and Ms. Costello's class played games with their Grandparents, sang a song and asked them lots of questions about school long ago. The girls loved having their Grandparents in school with them. It was a great day !!

The girls from Ms Nagle's and Ms Kenny's 6th classes have been learning about China this month. They have been creating their own projects on 'Modern China' and learning about the customs of the Ancient Chinese people. What better way to finish off their month of learning than by celebrating the Chinese New Year! The girls dressed up and watched Noel do a wonderful cooking demonstration in the staff room on Thursday the 23rd of January and then feasted on curries, noodles and rice in their classrooms. 

They thoroughly enjoyed the day!

Chinese New Year

Saturday 25th January 2020

The date for the Chinese New Year varies each year. The Chinese lunar calendar is associated with the Chinese zodiac, which has 12 animal signs: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, Rooster, dog, and pig. Each animal represents a year in a 12-year cycle, beginning on Chinese New Year's Day. 

2020 is the Year of the Rat.

As part of our Health Promoting Schools Programme, all classes are engaging in mindful activities.  Each term different classes will have meditation classes with Sally.  This term 3rd, 4th and 5th classes have their turn of meditation which they started on Wednesday the 15th of January.  The girls engaged in relaxation activities, focused on breathing and experienced being mindful before walking mindfully back to their classrooms.  The girls really enjoyed this experience and are looking forward to doing it again.  Some classes have even been walking mindfully to and from the hall since they learned this skill from Sally!

On Wednesday the 18th of December we had a very special visitor here in St. Brigid's ...SANTA CLAUS!! He popped into each class to have a little chat with the girls and to see all their hard work. He even brought some of his helpers along. The girls were very excited and sang a few Christmas songs for them.

The Parents Association also held the Christmas Raffle in the school that day. There were lots of great prizes up for grabs!! It was a fantastic day over all.

Both 5th classes have been busy learning about safety when cycling over the last few weeks.  They were given lessons on how to check that their bicycles were safe to use and how to make adjustments to their bicycles so that they are road worthy.  They have been learning about how to cycle safely on the road and have improved their cycling skills.  It has been a very fun learning experience for the girls.  Hopefully we will see much more girls cycling to and from school from now on.
