Some of the classes have had very exciting creatures growing in their classrooms.  Children in Senior Infants and First Class witnessed caterpillars developing their cocoons and then eventually they watched as the cocoons broke apart and beautiful butterflies emerged.  It was very exciting for the girls to watch and they learned so much about the life-cycle of butterflies.  They released their butterflies into the school garden.

Many of our classes are taking part in the Incredible Edibles Programme. This is a healthy eating initiative that encourages primary schools across the country to get busy growing carrots, lettuce, potatoes, strawberries, turnips and herbs. The school was supplied with grow packs containing everything they need to grow a veritable feast of healthy foods! Noel, our caretaker, has also been helping classes to plant a variety of herbs and vegetables that should be ready to cook with before the end of the school year. The girls are also learning about where food comes from and the importance of fruit, vegetables and potatoes in their diet. The children are taking great pride in the growing of their crops and making sure they are being watered and weeded regularly.

It was a very special week in St. Brigid's this week as we celebrated our first Creative Arts Week.  The hallways were decorated with the most fabulous displays created by each class.  There was a wonderful atmosphere of positivity in the school.  Each morning positive phrases were shared with classes over the intercom and lots of girls read poems that they wrote with the school.  Classes engaged in different crafts and activities throughout the week.  Ms. Shiels had a special visitor to her classroom who did a pottery demonstration for the girls.  The classes all learned songs with positive messages.  On Friday, classes engaged in a parade where they showed off the beautiful masks they had created.  Well done to Ms. Flynn and all the teachers who organised this great week, it was very enjoyable for all!

There was great excitement in the school this week as we celebrated another Active Schools Week.  This year was a bit different as we couldn't invite parents into the school for activities.  However families were very active at home taking part in active challenges that were set by Noel our caretaker, Paula our secretary, Ray our Tag Rugby coach and Amy our GAA coach.  The children and teachers were practising all week and challenged each on Friday.  All classes were busy running laps of the yard as part of the Run Around Ireland Challenge.  There was lots of friendly competition between classes as they tried to run as many kilometres as possible throughout the week.  Classes also took part in cycling safety, Tag Rugby, GAA, an Active Orienteering Fairy trail and Noel set up an obstacle course to challenge the girls' speed and agility.  Well done to the whole school in getting involved in the activities this week!
