Our school is supporting Safer Internet Day 2018. Safer Internet Day (SID) is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. It is promoted in Ireland by the PDST Technology in Education and Webwise. The Theme for Safer Internet Day 2018 is “Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you”. Safer Internet Day 2018 will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 6th. We encourage parents to access the website www.saferinternetday.ie to access very useful information and guides on things like cyberbullying, social networking and much more. Here in school the pupils in Ms.O'Donovan's 5th class created some fantastic resources for Safer Internet Use using Adobe Spark. These are a great example of how the internet can be used as a positive means of communicating!

We had a special treat on Friday 26th January when the Sam Maguire Cup came to visit us in St.Brigid's! This is our fifth visit from Sam but the excitement among the pupils and staff had in no way diminished this time round. The girls got lots of pictures taken with the cup. Hopefully we'll see it again this year..Up the Dubs!

Junior Infants have settled in well to their second term in St.Brigid's. They are continuing their hard work with their phonics and have started using their shared readers too. Junior Infants have enjoyed the theme of 'the Supermarket' in Aistear, learning about Biodiversity, exploring our new bird houses and feeders, using the computer room and having their grandparents visit their classrooms during Catholic Schools Week. It is great to see the girls continuing with their health lunches too after Food Dudes. The girls are looking forward to learning lots of more new things after midterm break!

Ms.Flynn's 1st class learned so much about Australia over the last month. The girls made brochures about what you can see Down Under using persuasive language and descriptive adjectives.
With the help of Ms.McMullen's class, the girls made their own very creative and colourful St.Brigid's Day crosses.
They also made lovely Rosary beads in Religion class.
1st class also learned about the theatre and the different positions on stage from the actor's perspective.
Ms.Concannon's class were selected to participate in this year's RDS Primary Science Fair which was held in conjunction with the BT Young Scientist of the Year competition. The class project 'Can a Skyscraper fall for a tremor?' was very popular among the judges and the visitors at the event. The girls were asked lots of questions about their project and demonstrated how Lego skyscrapers actually fall for a tremor using their specially designed table (courtesy of Noel, our caretaker!). The girls had a great day and got the opportunity to look at lots of other science experiments & projects, participate in workshops and visit lots of stands showcasing STEM activities!
