Junior and Senior Infants are busy exploring the theme of “Transport and Travel” in Aistear so two special visitors came to visit them to tell them all about airplanes and flying.  Brendan (Mrs. Howard’s brother) is a pilot and Michelle (Sophie’s mammy) is an air hostess.  They both work for Aer Lingus and they wore their uniforms to show the girls.  Brendan and Michelle told the girls all about the jobs they do.  Brendan showed the girls photos and videos of different airplanes.  Some of these photos were taken from inside the cockpit.  Michelle talked about the safety instructions she gives to passengers on the plane and showed the girls how a life jacket works.   The girls were extremely excited about the experience.   Both Michelle and Brendan answered so many questions the girls had about flying……..they are definitely experts now!

Transport & Travel In Infants

The girls from 2nd class celebrated their First Holy Communion in St.Brigid's parish Church on a lovely sunny day last Saturday 6th May. The girls looked beautiful in their dresses. They were a credit to their parents and teachers.  The girls from 3rd class sang beautifully on the day. Our parent's Association organised tea and refreshments in the resource Centre afterwards. The school acknowledges the work of all those involved in preparing the girls for this big day - parents, teachers SNAs and Noel. Thank you also to Fr.Liam who celebrated the Mass.

First Holy Communion

Our two 4th classes recently enjoyed a trip to Causey Farm. The girls got stuck in (quite literally!) to bog life. Everyone was very tired after a very active day!

A group of 5th & 6th class girls travelled to Santry Stadium on Tuesday to compete in a local Athletics competition. The girls were super in their races taking home four out of a total of six medals on the day. Keeva D came 1st in both the 80m and 400m. Bree S came 3rd in the 80m and 2nd in the 400m. Super achievement girls! Thanks to Ms.Howard for preparing the girls for the day!

Athletics in Santry 2017

On Thursday the 4th of May Ms Regan's fifth class went on the Do Dublin Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour.

Zoe's dad Maurice drove the open top double decker bus. Along the way he told us the history of the tourist sights as we went by. He also sang a few Irish songs, like Molly Malone and O ro se do bheatha abhaile. He told some funny jokes and stories too! Some of the Dublin sights we saw were The Spire, the GPO, Trinity College, Kilmainham Gaol, The Guinness Storehouse and the Phoenix Park.

Along the tour we stopped off on Dame street and got a bag of chips from Beshoffs. At the end of the tour we got to pick our favourite ingredients to make our own chocolate bar in Coco Bo. We all had a brilliant day and learned a lot about the history of Dublin. We would recommend the bus tour to everyone!

We would like to say a big thank you to Maurice Dalton for going to so much effort to make the day so enjoyable for us!

Our school website has been awarded a STAR SITE AWARD BY Scoilnet (official education portal of the Department of Education and Science in Ireland). We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious award which recognises those schools around Ireland who embrace the web as a communication tool. The school would like to acknowledge the work of the teachers and pupils, the Student Council and the Parent's Association who have worked on developing our website.

Scoilnet wrote a glowing report which can be viewed https://www.scoilnet.ie/star-site/st-brigids-girls-national-school-killester/ or read the report below..

"We would like to congratulate St Brigid’s Girls National School Killester on being awarded Scoilnet’s Star Site. This website is a great point of communication with parents and stakeholders. It also showcases the schools, its teachers and pupils’ achievements. The website also hosts supports for parents and students across all subjects.

There is a wealth of information available here on St Brigid’s Girls National School Killester’s website for parents and guardians from enrolment policy and forms to a calendar with closure dates, parent teacher meetings and sacrament dates. There is also a link to the parent’s association website and book lists. In the future an epayments facility will be available for parents. Another useful tool available her for parents and guardians are details of after-school activities.

Further supports for parents, guardians and pupils are links to useful website for different subject areas. Theses provide links for parents to educational websites that are safe for their children to visit and view. These can be used as part on recreational online use or to support the completion of homework.

This website also showcases the school, teacher’s and pupils’ achievements such as active week along with some fantastic images, the success of a quiz night fundraiser, the green flag, choir and GAA. We also liked the use of images from the school and classrooms rather than stock images across the site. Another nice feature is that the schools twitter feed is embedded on the site.

It is clear to see that alot of work and time has been spent on making this website a useful and enjoyable tool for parents, teachers and pupils. We commend St Brigid’s Girls National School Killester and its staff for embedding themselves in the local community and a fantastic website.
