We kicked off Active Week on Sunday 23rd April at St. Anne’s Junior Parkrun where many families from St. Brigid’s ran 2km together. There were some very impressive runs from the girls. Hopefully they will continue to take part in parkrun throughout the year.
On Monday Fionn from Clontarf Rugby taught tag rugby skills and set our first active challenge. Vickey taught 5th & 6th class girls Zumba for the first time and it was a huge hit. Ms. Dempsey taught classes some contemporary dancing.
On Tuesday Dominick from Ultimate Youth Frisbee set our second active challenge while teaching classes frisbee skills. Mikey from Craobhb Chiaran led the senior classes in GAA classes. Ms. Howard and Noel set up circuits of activities for all classes to take part in for our Active Picnic. These activities included team challenges, obstacle course, welly throwing, beanbag tossing, hockey races and an egg and spoon race.
On Wednesday Chiaran from Oga Yoga taught 4th-6th class yoga as Gaeilge. Chiaran set our 3rd active challenge. This was a big hit with the classes and really challenged the girls in a very fun way. Coaches from Clontarf Cricket Club taught classes some cricket skills while the whole school also took part in a skipathon. The winners were chosen for the finale on Friday.
On Thursday Enzo from Tennis Ireland taught classes tennis outdoors and set out 4th active challenge. Meanwhile indoors, Ms. Reilly and Sana, our very own badminton experts, taught classes badminton skills. Parents and grandparents were invited to the junior yard to teach playground games. This was lots of fun with the parents showing lots of energy and enthusiasm for being active in school.
On Friday we started the day with a whole school Wake Up shake up. Ms. Dempsey continued to teach classes dancing. Shane from Athletics Ireland taught the junior classes athletics skills. He also set our 5th challenge. Shane became the referee for our Active Committee -v- the staff dodgeball Game which was spectated by the whole school. This was a really fun activity and really brought out a competitive side to our staff!! We also had our skipathon finale. Well done to everyone involved in making Active Week 2013 a huge success!
