Mini Scientists!

What better way to begin the festive season than with a Christmas Jumper Day! The girls dressed up in Christmas jumpers today and kindly donated any spare change to LauraLynn, Ireland's first children's hospice. The choir sang some lovely Christmas songs and the infants sang a song or two! We had RTE News2day visit the school to record all the excitement and to interview some of the pupils! You can watch a video of the choir perform 'Candle in the Window' (from the Home Alone movie).

Christmas Jumper Day 2016!

St Brigid’s Girls Basketball Afterschool Program in association with Killester Basketball Club.

Following on from our great success in recent years we have two teams representing the school from 5th and 6th classes. The teams are entered into a primary school league where they will play local schools in the hopes to make the league finals. The girls train every Wednesday 2.20-3.20pm. There is varying ability on the team with girls who play for different clubs and girls who are starting for the first time! Our aim is to have fun, learn something new and give our school a day out at the finals!

Killester Basketball Club is one of the oldest clubs in the country. Leesa our coach has been involved in this club since a very young age. Killester have coaches in various schools throughout Dublin spreading the love of the game. For those interested in playing basketball there are girls and boys teams for every age group starting from ages 4yrs old. The club also has women's, men's, wheelchair and special Olympic teams. On Saturday’s you are welcome go to our local Irish Wheelchair Association in Clontarf to see some exciting games with the family.

Please check out www.killester.com for more information.

Alternatively, send a text to our coach Leesa Turner 0879221658 for any basketball info!

Ms.Flynn’s 1st class learnt about pointillism in Art and looked at paintings by Paul Signac and Georges Seurat. They were surprised and impressed that one painting took over two years to make. First of all, they practised painting with dots on paper using the back of a paintbrush. Then they decided to make a class quilt using this style of art. The girls all got a piece of fabric to create an animal scene and with the help of Ms. Flynn's Mum, the pieces were sewn together using an old sewing machine!

A Masterpiece! Well done girls! Click on the image below to view more photographs.

Mini Scientist Exhibition 2016

Our Senior infants, 2nd, 4th & 6th classes really enjoyed their Lego workshops! These workshops enabled the students to exercise scientific inquiry skills through direct hands on Science, Maths, Engineering and technology (S.T.E.M) activities. Children got the opportunity to practice and develop skills using LEGO education resources to predict, estimate, observe, measure and record investigations!
