Our Student Council was set up in October 2016. The girls on the committee have been very busy over the past few months. Here are just some of the tasks the girls have completed to date:

November 2016: The girls had the task of designing our new school sign. We think it looks great!

December 2016: The committee organised a whole school competition during the month of December to encourage classes to keep their rooms clean. Irene and Jackie, our cleaners, monitored classes and used a large chart (made by the Council and displayed in the corridor) to chart progress. WELL DONE to Ms. Concannon's 2nd class who won the competition and were presented with homework passes by Irene and Jackie.

January 2017: The Student Council are now working on developing the Learning Section on our school website, adding new links to educational websites in each of the subject areas.

Feb/March 2017: The girls are helping to design our new computer room! Furniture, flooring, paint, equipment are among the items the committee will help decide. Also, the team are helping to review our ICT and Acceptable Use Policy, due to be ratified at the next BOM meeting.

The SEAI talk was about saving energy and was delivered to some Senior Infants, 2nd and 5th classes. The girls talked about ways that they use energy.  They engaged in activities and games that helped them to discover where energy comes from, the importance of saving energy and the various ways in which they can save energy. They then met Guzzler, the puppet, and came up with ways to help him to save energy at home and in school.  The girls learned about how their food gets its energy and how the energy from their food is used to make their bodies work.  They investigated how clothes can be used to keep heat in our bodies and how moving around can generate heat. They also discovered that light, sound, heat and electricity are forms of energy. The girls really enjoyed the talk!
