The girls from Ms.Kenny's 6th Class have been busy this month. Read some of their accounts below:

Tag Rugby

"We enjoyed playing Tag Rugby with Ray over the past three weeks. During week one we learned the basics of having to pass the ball behind you and how to use the tags. We played tag chasing and loved it! After a week of rest we played bulldog except in a Tag Rugby way and we also played matches. Week three was lots of matches and lots of fun! I enjoyed my weeks of Tag Rugby and I wish to play it again!"   Ellen S.

Computer Room

"I love our new computer room! It has enough brand new computers for everyone in the class. We have played learning games that are so much fun like Maths games, Geography games and more! I can see our class using the computers to look up things for projects and homework. The computer room is also very good because of the touch screen board at the front of the room where the teacher can show us what we are supposed to be doing. I am having a great time learning in our computer room!"  Poppy R.

Our Mini-habitats Projects:

" Over the past few weeks we learned all about the different types of home that animals and humans call their home. Some of the habitats we learned about included the Polar regions, the Savannah, the Rainforest, woodlands and beaches! We also looked at home through history in our locality. For our project we typed up a paragraph on what animal and habitat we planned to do on Google classroom. Then we made a mini-habitat for the animal that we chose and brought them into school. I, and everybody, in my class loved making, designing and learning about habitats and homes. It will be an experience I will never forget all through secondary school!" Ailbhe M.

 6th Class September 2017 Activities

A very warm welcome to all of our new Junior Infants! The girls have settled in so well already and enjoyed their first two days of 'Big School'. We are looking forward to many more fun days together.

 Junior Infants 2017 Start School

On Monday September 11th, Lisa from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) visited our school to give a road safety talk to all of the classes. The talk was very useful and Lisa gave the pupils some very useful tips when using the roads. Our Junior Infants got some high visability jackets to wear for their journey to and from school. The RSA advises that Parents/Guardians talk to their children about using the roads safely getting to and from school.

Road Safety Week takes place October 2nd - 8th

We are pleased to announce that we have been nominated for the #BeActive Education Award by The Irish Sport Council.  The #BeActive Education Award 2017 is one of three award categories of the #BeActive Awards, launched as part of the 2017 European Week of Sport. This award category identifies three educational establishments from across Europe that promote active educational settings in addition to sport/physical activity classes in the standard curriculum to encourage young people to #BeActive. St. Brigid's GNS was chosen to represent Ireland in this category. A massive well done to to all of our teachers, pupils and parents for this nomination.

The Irish Sports Council informed us that the selection committee were particularly impressed by the inclusive nature and overall impact of our physical activity efforts. The European Council are now in the process of selecting three finalists in the education category to attend an awards ceremony which will take place in Marseilles, France in mid-October. Fingers crossed everyone!

Artwork created by the pupils from one of the 6th classes who just graduated from St.Brigid's in June can now be seen in an Irish movie. While these girls were in 5th class, with Ms.Farrell as their teacher, they designed Space drawings. These pictures are now featured in a film, a documentary called The Farthest (directed by Ellen Halpins). The film (GA rated) was in cinemas in August and aired on RTE last week. It is available to view on RTE player until October 5th. What a great achievement for our past pupils!

Our Jun Inf, Sen Inf and 1st classes braved the poor weather this morning to perform for their parents in the yard! The girls and their teachers sang and danced along to eight popular tunes including 'Roar', 'Bare Necessities' and 'can't Stop the Feeling'. What a performance! Well done to all involved, the parents really enjoyed it!
