On Thursday February the 13th we held our first Intercultural Day in St. Brigid's to celebrate diversity and the many cultures represented in our school community! To mark this special occasion we had an exhibition in the hall and welcomed families to come in to the school and talk to the girls about their customs and traditions. 14 countries were represented on the day. The representatives from the different countries wore native clothing/colours and brought in various food dishes for everyone to try. Each representative had an excellent display and had interactive activities for the children to do. It was a very enjoyable day and an excellent learning experience for all. Many thanks to the parents and children who participate and made our intercultural day one to remember.

On Tuesday and Wednesday Junior and Senior Infants went on a tour to Imaginosity, the children's museum in Sandyford. The classes left very early in the morning and went on a double decker bus which they thought was very exciting. In Imaginosity, the girls participated in an engineering workshop and had great fun engaging in role play activities which included working in a restaurant, a supermarket, a post office, building a house, working on television and lots more. They had experienced some of these activities previously through Aistear but also had the chance to try out lots of different activities too. It was a great experience for all the children and the classes really enjoyed their tour.

Safer Internet Day was celebrated in St. Brigid's on Tuesday the 11th of February. Safer Internet Day is an EU wide initiative that promotes a safer internet for all users, especially young people. A poster competition was held for 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils. The standard was very high and it was obvious that a lot of thought and effort was put in to creating such wonderful, thought provoking and informative posters. Well done to all the girls that participated.
Both 3rd and 4th classes were very busy working on their Science projects for Science Blast the past few weeks. They travelled to the RDS on Monday the 2nd of March to present their work to other schools. Ms. Flynn's class investigated 'does height affect sporting performance', Ms. Walshe's class investigated 'does the material on an aeroplane affect its performance', Ms. Delany's class investigated 'what material makes the strongest bridge' and Ms. Concannon's class did an investigation into the Brachistochrone curve. The judges were very impressed with the standard of work and gave them great feedback. Each class received an award. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the day and represented the school very well.

Junior Infants had a very busy January. They learned all about Winter and the Arctic Region! They even took on the role of Polar Explorers in Aistear and learned all about Polar Bears and where they live. They also made igloos and eskimos. They looked at the different types of clothes they wear to keep them nice and warm in Winter and what kind of weather we have.
The girls also did a fun, tasty Science experiment about melting and made their very own recipe for yummy Rice Krispie Cakes!
